Dr. Jaclyn

Owner / Veternarian

Dr. Jacki, originally from the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, discovered her passion for veterinary medicine at age three. She earned a biology degree from Iowa State University and gained hands-on experience as a veterinary technician in Hinsdale, Illinois. She then attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, completing her clinical training at Colorado State University. After an equine reproductive internship in Iowa, she worked at a mixed animal practice in Colorado before joining Aina Hou Animal Hospital in 2018. She became the owner in August 2021. Outside of work, she enjoys horseback riding, deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, and snowboarding. When she enters the surgery room, you can always expect her to say, "It’s a beautiful day to save lives, people!"—and she certainly lives by those words.

Dr. Valentina

Veterinarian

Dr. Poggi grew up in Villa Park, Illinois a small western-suburb town right outside of Chicago. Dr. Poggi and Dr. Pickerill are both from the same home town!

Dr. Poggi attended Elmhurst College and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with honors. After completing her undergraduate degree in 3 years, she pursued her passion for science and animals and graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois, also with honors. Her interests include surgery and ambulatory medicine where she is able to provide veterinary care to animals in the comfort of their own home.

Outside of Aina Hou Animal Hospital, you can find Dr. Poggi going for walks on the beach at Waipio with her fiancé, Bryce. She shares her home with 6 chickens, 24 sheep, 2 goats, 2 donkeys, and her fiancé.

Daniela

Practice Manager

Daniela has been with Aina Hou since 2019. She loves animals of all kinds. However, she has a sensitive stomach, which is why you'll find her at the front desk on her computer rather than handling poop samples. 😝

You will be greeted by Shelson's big smile and warm welcome when you enter our hospital lobby. Shelson was born and raised on the Big Island, growing up on the Hamakua Coast. After graduating high school, he attended Kapiolani Community College in Honolulu and spent time volunteering at numerous pet rescues and shelters.

Whether he is scheduling appointments or assisting our doctors with patients, Shelson expresses genuine care and compassion for our patients and their owners. "I am passionate about caring for animals and giving them a chance to live long, healthy, and happy lives," he says.

On his days off, you can find him enjoying family time, going on off-road adventures, singing karaoke, and caring for his many pets.

Ray

Veterinarian Technician

Born and raised on the Big Island, Ray has dedicated his life to working with animals. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from UH Hilo, followed by a Master’s in Public Health and Environmental Sanitation from UH Manoa. His deep connection to animals extends beyond the clinic—Ray spent time on Gunstock Ranch in Oahu breaking in horses and has been training stock dogs for over 40 years.

When he’s not caring for animals at Aina Hou Animal Hospital, Ray is an accomplished roper, team sorting, and team penning champion. At home, he tends to his own herd of sheep and goats, along with his five dogs, two mules, and a horse. With a lifetime of hands-on experience and a true passion for animal care, Ray brings an invaluable skill set to our team.
